The loss of Matt Sharp is what killed Weezer. He was Rivers’ artistic and character foil. For every serious thing Rivers did, Matt did something silly. Watch any old =W= video.

His silly falsetto vocals, making faces. But he could shut it off when rocking out was necessary.

And the Rentals wern’t as good as Weezer because Matt can’t pull off serious as well as Rivers.
